Over the last few years UPA has laid a strong foundation to nurture chapter growth and build usability communities internationally. Because of this, the opportunity is now for UPA to create a global brand and support the ever growing international interest in Usability especially in Asia. I am confident that chapters will continue to fuel future membership and I look forward to supporting, creating and connecting chapters across the world. We have a lot to learn from each other.

Usability professionals strive to make technology simpler and more satisfying and improve people's lives. UPA promotes and nurtures the profession, helping its members learn, network and grow. I aim to make our organization stronger and more successful, and help raise awareness of the need to create better user experiences.

One of the core values of any association is to provide resources and support for the professional growth of its members. As the Director of Professional Development, I will work to ensure that those resources are not only available, but also of the highest quality. My objective is to focus on the retention of members and the growth of the UPA by providing items of solid value to all members, whether they are new to the profession or have been an active practitioner for many years..

UPA publications are a key benefit and resource to our members. They play a vital role in furthering UPA's overall mission, helping to develop our professional community, and presenting our profession to the world. I am especially interested in helping UPA publications contribute to larger goals, such as continuing to develop UPA as an international community, extending the philosophy, approaches, and knowledge that UPA represents to new domains, and cross-pollinating ideas and methods with other professional organizations in the user experience arena.

My goals for UPA are to increase the usability and accessibility of UPA websites and to implement changes that provide additional value to members as well as the public. I am particularly interested in enhancing the experience for both students and for international members who may speak English as a second language.

Global Outreach is key to integrating our world-wide chapters into a unified community with a shared focus. The issues I will address in 2008 include creating a regional strategy, setting up our Regional Coordinator positions, overseeing the Global Advisory Committee, having displays at all regional events and local conferences, localizing UPA materials and organizing a workshop for the regional coordinators at the international conference.

As Director of World Usability Day, I am excited by the response we continue to have, after our third World Usability Day. Clearly we are hitting a hot issue and using it raise the consciousness of people to the importance of good usability. We need to raise the bar on technology, product and service offerings to insure that technology is meeting the demands of people and not the other way around. UPA has become a world-class organization, truly serving the needs of our members and colleagues and I am proud to be serving on the UPA Board.
