Getting Around

TriMet operates the buses and the MAX (short for Metropolitan Area Express) light rail system which connects the city and suburbs, including the MAX line from the airport to the downtown/waterfront area where the Hilton is located (about 40 minutes). The Trimet Trip planner allows travelers to plan trips ahead of time and get real-time transit arrival times.

Restaurants, shops, and entertainment throughout downtown Portland are easily accessible via the Portland Streetcar. The Portland Streetcar operates along a 7.5-mile loop from the southern waterfront, north through Portland State University and Cultural District through downtown performing art venues and galleries in the trendy Pearl District, and by the shops and restaurants of Northwest 23rd.

The city is particularly supportive of urban bicycling and has been recognized by the League of American Bicyclists among others for its network of paths and other bicycle-friendly services. Portland also is listed by Walk Score as one of the top 10 in walkable cities among the 40 nation’s biggest population centers, thanks to walkable neighborhoods like the downtown, Pearl, Northwest, Old Town/Chinatown, and Lloyd district areas.
