Student Design Jam

In the world of marketing being able to convey the essence of your organization in a clear and concise manner is essential. Balancing the messaging and imagery needed to reflect the core brand values of an organization as well as convey the message of any given campaign is a challenge. From a branding perspective, the UPA poster is an essential marketing tool; it persists beyond the marketing campaign and the life of a website design as it hangs on the walls of businesses and schools. In addition, all new UPA members receive a copy of the poster. An example of the current poster can be viewed here.

Any students attending the 2012 UPA International Conference on Leadership are invited to attend a design jam to create the next UPA Poster. Teams of students will be tasked with finding the balance of messaging and imagery for the new UPA poster. During the three-hour Design Jam on Wednesday afternoon, mentors will work with students to create concepts from the requirements presented at the beginning of the session. Materials will be provided to the teams including flip charts, Post-Its, markers, tape, and glue. A panel of UPA Members will judge the poster concepts. The UPA will invest in the winning concept and produce it for distribution as the next UPA Poster. The names of the students from the winning team will be placed on the poster.

During the Jam, students will be able to work with students from other schools, network with mentors, and have artifacts they can present in their portfolio. There will be prizes awarded to the winning teams in addition to the opportunity for students to play an integral role in creating designs that will become the next UPA Poster.
