 UPA Conference 2005

Volunteer for UPA 2005!

UPA welcomes volunteers during the 2005 conference in Montreal. To those who qualify, we offer a significant discount off the registration fee in exchange for service.

Who qualifies to be a volunteer? (specified in preference order)

  1. Full-time college or graduate students, including Spring '05 graduates
  2. Part-time students enrolled in a degree or certificate program
  3. Under-employed individuals
  4. Individuals attending the conference at their own expense

What are the benefits of volunteering?

  • Exposure to prospective employers and plenty of opportunity for networking
  • Free attendance at tutorials at which you are serving
  • Registration rebate off the regular student fee (applied after service is completed)
  • Distinctive UPA "Volunteer" shirt to be worn while on duty

What are the duties and responsibilities?

  • You must be available throughout the entire conference (June 27 - July 1, 2005)
  • You must perform at least 15 hours of service during the conference. Possible shifts include staffing the information booth, registration desk and assisting session chairs and tutorial instructors
  • You must attend volunteer meetings

How much does it cost?

The net cost for attending the conference as a volunteer is $110 ($US). Please note that you will initially be charged the $300 student registration fee. Upon the completion of your conference duties, you will receive a refund check for the difference. Refund checks will be issued approximately 4-6 weeks after the conference.

Does UPA support travel and lodging?

Unfortunately, UPA cannot provide travel or lodging subsidies to conference volunteers. We encourage you to share rooms at the conference hotel, and will help you find a roommate, if needed.

How many volunteer slots are available?

For the UPA 2005 conference, we will need at least 25 volunteers. Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis, with priority given to full-time students.

In addition, since the conference is in Montreal this year, volunteers who speak French and English fluently are encouraged to apply.

How do I become a volunteer?

If you would like to volunteer or would like more information, please submit an online application.  Applications will be accepted thru May 15, 2005.

If the available volunteer slots have been filled, your name will be placed on the wait-list. If you have additional questions, please email the Volunteer Committee Co-Chairs:
