Usability in the News
How Poor Usability Can Kill Your Copy and Conversions (American Chronicle, 13 Oct 2008)
"It's funny how we, as website owners, don't always think like our visitors. A course of action that might seem perfectly obvious to us may stop our visitors right in the middle of their buying process. Take, for instance, e-commerce–type copy. Do you realize that what happens after your customers read your copy could make or break your sale? I'm not talking about shopping cart abandonment. I'm talking about good communication that keeps the buying cycle moving forward."
My Take: E-Voting Not User-Friendly (Discovery Channel, 3 Nov 2008)
"Most electronic voting machines use touch screens, much like an iPhone or many bank ATMs. While there are several different technologies for figuring out where your finger might be, they all require a "calibration" process. Unfortunately, calibration depends on viewing angle, and that will vary across different voters. That means some voters will need to "aim high" while others will need to "aim low" in order to hit their target. Some voters will figure this out. Others will make mistakes and may or may not notice."
Navigation menus 'important for usability' (ClickThrough, Search Engine Marketing, 3 Oct 2008)
"Online retailers should work on their navigational menus to make them as usable as possible following research suggesting some of the UK's biggest brands fail to do this."
