Children and significant others are welcome to join the occasion. Feel free to bring Frisbees, wiffle ball sets, or any other items to add to the festivities. Park amenities include historic buildings, monuments, trails, scenery, etc. that you can explore before or after the picnic. Sponsored by MISI Company, Marketing Capital Management and Anikto.
DFW-UPA (Dallas/Fort Worth):
Tuesday, August 25 - Book Swap & 2009 Conferences Recap
(Richardson, TX) - Did you have to miss your favorite conference this year thanks to a tight budget? If so, catch up a bit at this month's DFW UPA meeting! Several people will do 10-minute talks about their experiences at SxSW, IA Summit, Big (D)esign, UPA2009, and SIG-CHI. It isn't every day that you have a chance to get the gist of five different conferences in less than two hours.
And did we mention that attendance is FREE if you bring a book for our book swap? Just find a book you don't need any more -- comic, coffee-table, thriller, IA, design, whatever -- and bring it to the meeting to get in free and pick up something else to read.
This is really a social, so please come out, relax, meet some new people, and catch up with old friends!
Austin UPA (Austin, TX):
Thursday, August 27 - August Meeting: Party with a Purpose
(Austin, TX) - Join your fellow UX, IX and usability professionals for an evening of mingling, conversation and drinks as we "party with a purpose" for Villa Esperanza. Come on out to Plucker’s North for some good food and drinks, and help raise money to further Villa Esperanza's mission for a Better World...Here and Everywhere!
TriUPA (North Carolina):
Thursday, August 27 - Death To The Spec: Building A Testable Prototype Using Axure
Ever wanted to build a rich prototype that was actually testable? Sick of generating documentation? Tired of stakeholders not understanding how your wireframes should operate? Need an Agile UX tool under your belt? This workshop is for you. In this session, Todd Moy will build a real-world prototype using Axure RP Pro. The session is designed to give people who have never used this software before an in-depth understanding of its benefits and drawbacks.
UPA DC-Metro (Washington, DC):
UPA-DC Summer Social Event – Hike at Scott’s Run
(McLean, VA) - UPA-DC will be going on a hike at Scott’s Run Nature Preserve. The hike will last for between 1.5 and 2 hours and will be led by Jim Dewing from Fairfax County Park Authority. Bring water and comfortable walking shoes. Bug spray is recommended but since the preserve is under heavy tree cover, sunscreen is optional.
Feel free to bring snacks for yourself. We may be able to stop at certain points, take a break and enjoy the surroundings. The Nature Preserve does have garbage cans at certain locations, but recommends a “tote in and tote out” policy.
