BOSTON: We would like to congratulate the first members to receive BostonChapter scholarships to attend the UPA 2005 Conference in Montreal.These scholarships recognize and reward students and professionals who have a statedinterest in pursuing or furthering a career in the usability and humanfactors field. The chapter hopes to make this a yearly event (given a good financial state). A description of the selection process will befeatured in an article in the June UPA Voice. The winners for 2005 are Richard Beauregard, Judy Blostein and Mariah Levitt.

UPA LAUNCHES JOURNAL OF USABILITY STUDIES
Looking for a place to find good reports of usability research, new techniques or good professional practices. The UPA is launching the Journal of Usability Studies (JUS), a peer-reviewed, international, online publication dedicated to promoting and enhancing the practice, research, and education of usability engineering. The first issue will be published in Fall 2005. If you are interested in submitting a paper, contact editor in chief Avi Parush at jus@upassoc.org.

MAKING IT EASY: WORLD USABILITY DAY - 3 NOVEMBER 2005

UPA JOINS DESIGN FOR DEMOCRACY
The UPA Voting and Usabilty Project has joined forces with AIGA in Design for Democracy. This stragetic program mobilizes an interdisciplinary group of research and design professionals to increase participation in the civic experience. From election design to emergency and evacuation design to IRS tax education design, D4D is having positive impact on experiences between the government and the governed. MAKING IT EASY: JOURNÉE MONDIALE DE L'UTILISABILITÉ - 3 NOVEMBRE 2005
Les plans de la journée mondiale de l'utilisabilité vont bon train. Certains événements locaux sont à un niveau de planification avancé, d'autres sont encore au stade de la réflexion et quelques-uns viennent tout juste de s'inscrire. Il ne reste seulement que cinq mois avant le grand événement et l'excitation est palpable. La presse s'intéresse déjà à l'événement, notamment en Israël et à Boston, et plusieurs sites Internet en parlent également. La journée mondiale de l'utilisabilité commence déjà à atteindre son objectif, soit de sensibiliser les gens à l'importance de concevoir des technologies faciles à utiliser et au design centré utilisateur. L'UPA SE JOINT AU PROJET "DESIGN FOR DEMOCRACY"
Le projet " Vote et utilisabilité " de l'UPA a uni ses forces avec le AIGA dans le cadre du projet " Design for Democracy ". Ce programme stratégique mobilise une équipe multidisciplinaire de professionnels en design et en recherche afin d'encourager la participation au niveau de l'expérience civile. De la conception des élections aux mesures d'urgences et d'évacuations, jusqu'à la conception des programmes d'éducation sur les taxes, " D4D " a un impact positif sur l'expérience entre les gouvernants et les gouvernés. Boston: Wir gratulieren den ersten Mitgliedern, die vom Boston Chapter eine finanzielle Unterstützung erhalten haben, um an der UPA 2005 Conference in Montreal teilzunehmen. Durch diese Zustüpfe werden jene Studenten und Geschäftsleute unterstützt und anerkannt, die ein grosses Interesse an einer Karriere im Bereich Usability und Human Factor zeigen. UPA ARBEITET MIT DEM PROGRAMM "DESIGN FOR DEMOCRACY" ZUSAMMEND
as "UPA Wahlen und Usability Projekt" bündelt seine Kräfte. Im Programm Design für Demokratie (D4D) arbeitet es neu mit AIGA, dem Journal of Design (www.aiga.org) zusammen. Dieses strategische Programm mobilisiert eine interdisziplinäre Gruppe von Forschern und Designprofis und strebt damit eine stärkere Beteiligung an der "Bürgererfahrung" an. Vom Wahl(zettel)design, über das Design von Flucht- und Evakuierungsplänen bis hin zur Unterstützung beim Design der Erläuterungen zum Steuersystems der amerikanische Steuerbehšrde IRS reicht das Spektrum, wo D4D einen positiven Einfluss auf die Erlebniswelt zwischen Regierung und Regierten hat. UPA SE ASOCIA A DISEÑO PARA LA DEMOCRACIA (AIGA)
Este programa estratégico moviliza un grupo interdisciplinario de investigación y diseño profesional para aumentar la participación en la experiencia cívica. Desde el diseño de las señales de evacuación y salidas de emergencia, al impuesto de educación en diseño, está teniendo un impacto positivo entre la experiencia de los gobernantes y los gobernados.
