German Chapter's Usability Professionals Track 2004

Matthias Peissner

Board member German UPA chapter

After the big success of last year's conference, the German chapter of the UPA is planning a Usability Professionals Track for the upcoming “ Mensch & Computer 2004” conference again. “ Mensch & Computer” is the most important HCI conference in the German speaking community.

This year, we have even more submissions for the Usability Professionals Track than last year. This shows the great interest in a platform for Usability Professionals to exchange ideas and have rich networking opportunities. The range of topics will include case studies from diverse usability projects, workshops and practice sessions about new methods and processes, organisational and management issues, joy of use, persuasive technologies, etc.

In order to emphasize the international networking character of the UPA, it is planned to have short presentations of other local chapters. Everyone is invited to submit some kind of presentation material, e.g. a short video clip, a poster, audio tape, photos, etc. in order to introduce his local chapter, its activities and its members. Please send your presentation material directly to: mc2004@gc-upa.de (by end of May).

Some additional info on our chapter:

As you might know, the German chapter is organized in several local groups / roundtables. Meanwhile, we have 11 local usability roundtables (e.g. Stuttgart , Munich , Hamburg , Berlin , etc.). We decided to take the approach of having one big UPA chapter in order to gain more influence here in Germany . And our short history seems to confirm this was a good decision. We formed in 2002 and now have more than 130 members. Our highlight activities include the organisation of the Usability Professionals Track 2003 and the edition (planned for May) of a “Usability Report” (an extensive study about the current situation of usability professionals and the state of the business in Germany ).
