Position Description

In this position, you will apply your knowledge of human performance and human factors techniques to the design and development of products offered by Medtronic Cardiac Rhythm Disease Management (CRDM), Minneapolis, MN. You will need a solid understanding of the theories, principles, and data associated with human performance capabilities and limitations (perceptual, cognitive, motor, bio-mechanical, and anthropometric) and the ability to apply this knowledge to the design, definition, evaluation, launch, and use of products across Medtronic’s product range.

Basic Qualifications:

MS in Human Factors, Usability Engineering, cognitive/experimental Psychology, Kinesiology, Industrial Design or Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering with extensive human factors coursework. Have high tolerance for change, ability to multi-task continuously and quickly pick up advanced domain knowledge, and be willing to travel.

Have a 8 -10 year history of working on human factors design and evaluation of medical, business or consumer products. Demonstrate a proven track record of applying various human factors/usability engineering principles and tools in the design, development, and evaluation of hardware and software products brought to market. Show ability to integrate creative skills with innovative problem solving techniques to develop design concepts. Demonstrate ability to work with multidisciplinary teams that may include other HF experts. Candidates must have excellent team, interpersonal, verbal, and presentation skills.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications:

Hold a PhD in one of the above disciplines. Have a working knowledge of cardiac function and implantable medical devices. Have experience teaching human factors and usability engineering concepts to a diverse audience.

Technical Skills

We are looking for a talented, self-determined visual designer specializing in web- and client-based application design to work onsite in our dynamic and fast-paced development environment as a contracted member of the User Experience (UX) team.

As a member of the UX team you will help design the next generation of NeXpose, a rich Internet application (RIA). You will work closely with the Director of User Experience as the primary visual designer. You will be responsible for the production of a visual design that enhances the usability, accessibility and aesthetic appeal of NeXpose. Deliverables will include mood boards, user-centered UI layouts, customer surveys, brand-driven visual language (color, typography, graphics and icons), and ultimately a comprehensive style guide for development.

The Design and Usability Center at Bentley College seeks a full-time Director. The Design and Usability Center, is a state-of-the art design and testing facility committed to user experience research, design, and usability testing services for the national and international technology community. The Center also supports Bentley’s graduate program in Human Factors in Information Design and related research efforts in field of human computer interaction.

Candidates must possess an advanced degree in cognitive psychology, human computer interaction, or human factors. Qualified candidates must have experience managing a testing and research facility, working with external clients as well as expertise in designing, administering, and interpreting usability tests and research studies. Involvement in and contact with the national testing, user experience, and HCI community is expected.

The Director will assume full responsibility for managing the Center, five full-time staff, seven Testing Associates, and the budget. Human Factors and User Experience

Bentley seeks a tenure-track faculty member starting in August of 2009 to teach and conduct research in our rapidly expanding graduate program in human factors and user experience. We seek candidates with the experience and motivation to explore the intersection of human factors, the user experience, and business strategy. Like all faculty in the department, the successful applicant will teach undergraduate courses as needed.

Applicants must have a PhD in human factors, cognitive science, human computer interaction, or related area. Of paramount importance is demonstrated research achievement and scholarly publication in human factors, usability engineering or HCI. Applicants must be willing and able to establish externally funded research activities to complement the interdisciplinary work currently underway in our nationally recognized Design and Usability Center.

Also expected is demonstrated excellence in graduate teaching in one or more of the following areas: human factors, usability engineering or human computer interaction. Industry experience is highly desirable. Our program values interdisciplinary work across the college and close collaboration with the external development community.
