InfoPal: A System for Conducting and Analyzing Multimodal Diary Studies

A new method that extends the traditional text-based diary study methodology to include multimodal formats

This paper introduces the “Multimodal Diary Study” methodology which is an extension of the traditional diary study. Diary entries in this extended methodology include multimodal formats such as images, audio, video, annotated media, free-hand sketches along with the traditional use of text.

A new system called “InfoPal” was developed to enable the collaborative capturing of rich contextual diaries from multiple devices, and provides features for multimodal diary analysis by UX researchers and usability practitioners.
