Usability practitioners have a variety of methods and techniques to inform interaction design and identify usability problems. However, these tools are not as effective at evaluating the visceral and emotional response generated by visual design and aesthetics. This presentation will discuss why studying visual design is important, review considerations for preference and desirability testing and present two alternative approaches to user studies of visual designs in the form of case studies.
