SIG: What's New in Standards for Usability and Accessibility?

The UPA and UPA members are leaders in several new standards for usability and accessibility--at the W3C, in US government Section 508 regulations, and US voting system standards. Come hear about this work, discuss the relationships between usability and accessibility, and learn how you can participate in shaping requirements that will affect us all. This session will include brief presentations on current work, and a chance to ask questions, express opinions and get involved.

Mike Paciello, Co-Chair of the US Access Board Advisory Committee (TEITAC) working on updates for two federal regulations, "Section 508" (Web and IT) and "Section 255" (telecommunications).

Sarah Swierenga and Whitney Quesenbery are UPA's representatives on TEITAC.

Shawn Henry, W3C Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI). WAI is developing the next versions of the accessibility guidelines for Web sites, Web applications, authoring tools, and browsers.

Whitney Quesenbery is the chair for human factors and privacy for the US federal voting system requirements (VVSG). The next version of these guidelines will have a public comment period later this year.
