Working with immigrant and trans-national users

Working with immigrant users in usability evaluation poses certain challenges due to cultural and linguistic differences that impact the roles, purpose, and nature of testing. This presentation organizes and relates salient concerns and issues articulated by participants in an ongoing study of Russian immigrants and Mexican immigrants using the World Wide Web. The presentation focuses particular attention on how such groups challenge usability practitioners in the development of usability methods and the evaluation of usability metrics. The presentation offers specific recommendations based on the research for how usability practitioners can better address cultural misunderstandings between practitioners and users and therefore better meet the “face” needs of such groups. 40 Minute Presentation by Filipp Sapienza Accessibility & Internationalization for General
